Last month, we had the opportunity to take our first trip to Sumatra in five years. It was wonderful to reunite with our partners there and enjoy excellent coffees from the new crop. We’re dedicating this month’s newsletter to an in-depth report on the visit.
The harvest is beginning in Costa Rica, and things are getting busier every day at our farms and mills! This month we’re focusing on updates from La Minita and Rio Negro, plus we’ve got some exciting sustainability news.
This month, we’re spending some time on Sumatra, where the harvest of the main crop will be underway soon. We’re also celebrating a new certification recognizing our sustainability efforts in Costa Rica.
Summer is nearly over, and we’re nearing the end of the arrival season for coffee from Central America. With that in mind, we’re turning our focus to Kenya this month. With a variety of excellent coffees on the water now, there’s plenty to talk about!
In this month’s edition, we’re turning our focus to Guatemala, where we’ve been building partnerships for many years in order to source great coffees for our customers. In addition, we have some exciting updates about what’s been going on at our farms and mills in Costa Rica.
June is an exciting month for us here at La Minita, with new arrivals landing every week from across Central America and especially from our own farms and mills in Costa Rica. So with that in mind, we’d like to use this month’s edition to talk about our namesake farm, Hacienda La Minita.
Here are two videos showing the nice flowering at Rio Negro, and an early peek at what looks to be very good production for the 24/25 harvest.
After harvest we turn our attention at the farms to maintenance of the trees and infrastructure. Road grading and repair is a big job following the rainy season and harvest.
Our nursery operations are one of our most critical undertakings at our farms. Healthy nurseries are where healthy coffee trees begin their lives.
Maintaining terraced slopes is important for a few reasons. Terraces help control rain runoff and mitigate erosion. Terraces also provide safe footing for workers, whether they are applying fertilizer, pruning, or picking.
Since we couldn’t travel to Peru this year for our annual visit, we asked our partners at Finca Churupampa and Valles de Cafe cooperative to send us some photo updates.
