Field Notes May 2025

Welcome to another edition of Field Notes! In this month’s newsletter, we have details about our upcoming Guatemala arrivals, plus updates from our farms in Costa Rica and more.

Guatemala Landing Soon!

We’re approaching peak season for new crop arrivals from Central America, and that means our first shipments from Guatemala will be landing soon. Each year, we work with our partners in Guatemala to source a wide range of great coffees, from workhorse regional lots to single-farm microlots.

We have shipments of our key smallholder-produced lots headed to both coasts and available for booking now. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s on the way:

La Flor del Café Antigua
This coffee comes from producers in Antigua and is prepared exclusively for La Minita to our specifications. The result is a sweet, balanced cup with notes of cocoa, caramel, and citrus.

San Martin Jilotepeque Organic
We work with producers in San Martin to source this coffee, which has become a staple for many of our roaster customers. Expect a syrupy body with notes of dried red fruit, brown sugar, and cherry.

Candelaria Organic
Grown by small producers in Huehuetenango, this coffee is a great example of the profile the region is famous for. Notes of orange, plum, and milk chocolate make it an excellent fit for a variety of roasting needs.

Recent arrivals have been moving quickly, so if you are looking to secure your Guatemala needs for the year, we’d recommend booking soon. Reach out to your salesperson or contact us via the form on our website and we’ll be happy to help with pricing, samples, and arrival timelines.

This Month in Costa Rica

This month our team has been busy completing lot renovations at both La Minita and Rio Negro, transplanting seedlings from our nurseries into their permanent homes. We renovate a portion of our farms each year, replacing older, less productive trees with the next generation of coffee plants. By doing this work, we ensure that the farm will remain healthy and productive for years to come!
