A Harvest Update from Costa Rica
January is the peak of the harvest at La Minita, and the coffee trees are full of ripe red cherry. Our farm staff is hard at work picking and processing coffee, and as always, we’ve been hosting our clients at the farm all month. It’s always great to share this experience with friends old and new, and we look forward to continuing these visits in February and beyond.
This year, the productivity at the farm has been excellent, and early samples show exceptional quality. We are expecting shipments of La Minita to begin in March and continue over the next few months.
Our mills, Beneficio Rio Tarrazú and Beneficio Rio Negro, are staying busy processing coffees from our own farms as well as smallholder producers in Los Santos and Coto Brus, respectively. So far, the harvest in Los Santos— particularly San Marcos and Santa Maria de Dota—has been on the lower side this year. Picking will continue in these regions for another month or so, but we will have some early shipments departing in February.
In the warmer Coto Brus region, the harvest is all but complete, and we will have shipments of the smallholder-produced La Sonrisa arriving soon, as well as natural and peaberry selections from Hacienda Rio Negro.
With the crop in Los Santos looking light, we recommend booking forward for your Costa Rica needs if you haven’t already. If you’d like more information about our incoming coffees, contact your salesperson or fill out the form here!
