Peru

South America

Peru has it all: coast, mountains, and jungle. And coffee. Lots of it. Peru is the third largest producer of coffee in South America, after Brazil and Colombia. Coffee is grown between the Andes mountain range on the west and the Amazon River basin on the east. The three main growing regions are the north, the selva central (central jungle), and the southern highlands around Cusco. Because of this large geographical spread, coffee grows half the year, from April to October.

Peru is a leader in organic and fair trade certified coffees and increasingly is producing interesting and unique microlots. Most Peruvian coffee farms are small (the average farm size is three hectares) and are managed by family members. Producers hand-pick their ripe cherries, depulp them in small depulpers, and ferment them on their individual farms in fermentation tanks before sun-drying on patios or raised beds. Producers sell their coffee in parchment to cooperatives, local buyers, or exporters. After being sorted and dry-milled, coffee leaves Peru through the ports of Paita or Callao.

We work with a number of producers and exporters in Peru and have a wide range of qualities available.
